A visit with 5 men of the men's group, The Clearwater Men's Council. The group has been meeting in Eau Claire since 1990, changing the lives of hundreds of men over that time. In this interview I, Mark Helpsmeet, am joined by Mark Ruddy, Art Lyons, Damian O'Brien and John Powers.

For a very good example of men's group work, look at The Mankind Project. Some members of Clearwater Men's Council have been part of the "New Warrior Adventure Training" sponsored by the Mankind Project, so there is significant overlap in outlook and approach.

Clearwater Men's Council
How the men changed from being in this group.
In the case of Mark Helpsmeet, his wife would have left him. The other Mark had them accept him even when he was at his worst. Damien had problems with depression and had the help from them for that.
How is it different from other groups.
Culture of cutting to the chase. None of the people have agendas with each other. Also not a blatently religious group where you have the agenda of pushing the religion of the people.
How it is spiritual
Spirituality is loving other people.
What this group is about
It is about learning to love and accept yourself and about dealing with the anger that builds up in a life. It is also about accessing the experience of other men to help them and letting go of their fears.
What is a mens group
A safe place to find oneself. And to learn ways to deal with their aggression and other issues they have.
Why men come to the council meetings
What needs does it serve for them. one would rather be seen as a human being than a man. its his way to spend time with other men. one only had women to talk to about his feelings. Ultimately it is a place for honesty.
