Song of the Soul

Carrie Newcomer added some rich music, experience and Spirit to her repertoire by her recent visits to India, including collaboration with legendary sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and his sons Amaan & Ayaan. As always, Carrie weaves tapestries of music & Spirit spanning the globe, all launched from her home in Indiana.

Patrice Haan has been part of the leadership of the Bay Area Folk Harp Society, producing music with an instrument wonderfully compatible with her voice & lyrics. She has 2 CDs on her own, and another 2 as part of the duet Leftover Dreams. Whether she's singing the water-infused songs of her own pen, sharing healing in hospitals with Healing Muses or performing the jazz/torch song music of Leftover Dreams, there's loads of heart & Spirit to bask in.

Joanne Rand melds elements of folk/rock/country/classical and more in her songs, all of them infused with a root-deep connection to nature, peace, and roving ways. A lover of trees, whales, peace, and her Georgia-based family, she uses her music to connect all.

Joanne Rand overcame her shyness because of her need to sing people together in care for the Earth. Having lived way off the grid, in a tree house, she's walked the walk, from growing up in Georgia to parenthood in Northern California, where she listens to the song of the stars.

Kim Harris and her husband, Reggie, have been conveying passion, history, and spirit through great music for decades. In addition to the folk venues and schools where they've performed and taught, Kim has added learning & teaching as part of the degree she's poised to receive from Union Theological Seminary in NYC.

While traditional Quaker worship, based on silence, has no scheduled singing as part of worship, Quakers are among the singing-est and dancing-est of folks around. Don Pardee did a simple recording of 6 folks from Milwaukee Friends Meeting singing a sampling of songs they share Sunday mornings before worship. Jim Schacht, Don Pardee, & Andrea Jehly share about the music they made, along with Sally Durgerian, Kay Augustine, and Jennifer Dahlquist.

Sue Kranz is a musical gift, and humble on top of that. Rooted in mindfulness meditation, thriving in nature, changing the world through activism and teaching, Sue shares a beautiful soul, voice, guitar and flute, helping the world be a better place. Starting as a solo act, she has delighted in performing with a 6-woman group, Constellations, and currently partners with Ben Tousley, previously on Song of the Soul. Phil Circle, now in Wisconsin's Chippewa Valley, spent most of 2 decades in Chicago. Trained in classical, influenced in jazz directions by a visit to New Orleans when he was 7, and walking in Eric Clapton's guitar-steps, Phil combines rich and diverse influences as a singer/songwriter.

Kiya Heartwood has an amazing assemblage of musical influences, from folk to hard rock and punk rock, plus her degree in composing. She was with Radio Cafe, then on Arista records with Stealin Horses, and settled into a long spell with Miriam Davidson as Wishing Chair, and CDs & books by Kiya and Meg Barnhouse are available at OutlawHillArts.com.
