People's Music Network

A sampling of the full 3-plus-hour collaborative concert held on February 11^th, 2023 as part of the People's Music Network (PMN) Winter Convergence hosted at The People's Forum in New York City. Activism, humor, inspiration, justice, and more by 10 of the 25-plus performers at the concert.

Will Fudeman's musical muse is very strongly connected to his hopes, prayers, & vision for the world. Having worked as a social worker & therapist, he is currently doing healing work with Eastern arts including acupuncture & Qi Gong. Will completes his lifework with his music, which he performs on guitar & mandolin. Spiritually/philosophically fueled by both his Jewish Identity and Taoist leanings, he sings with meaning and a promise of hope. Phil Hoose writes songs that we all love and that other performers love to perform. His best-known, Hey, Little Ant, is a song, but also a book that has sold over 1 million copies in 10 languages. With a quirky eye for seeing the world differently, his songs intrigue, amuse, & enchant. An employee of The Nature Conservancy for decades, and the author of more than 10 books, including the inspirational Claudette Colvin: Twice Toward Justice, Phil's awards include the John Newbery Medal, Sibert Medal, and the National Book Award for Young People's Literature.

Steve Suffet has the heart & the pedigree of a 100% authentic old-fashioned folk singer. Growing up near ground zero of the folk music explosion of NYC in the early 1960's, Steve has witnessed & shared the music of many others, and added his share to the conversation. Though he waited a few decades to start recording his music, Steve has 7 CDs on CDBaby.

Music is deep in Bob Reid's genetics, both from his father's record store and his mother's performing. The gift was also nurtured in him by the folk music community around San Francisco, including folks like Melvina Reynolds and Faith Petric.

Terry Kitchen has been making fine folk music since 1991, mostly solo, after his initial career as a rock star with Loose Ties. Terry's songs mostly emerge from the deep, introspective places, accompanied by beautiful acoustic guitar work. Terry hasn't always been Terry, because once he was Max, as you'll hear during our conversation. Occasionally you'll find him on stage with other folks, like the wonderful Mara Levine, but today he joins us solo, from Boston.

Music by 6 of the top 13 finalists of the 2018 Songs of Social Change contest, rich in world-changing energy and genres, with influences from Canada, Equador, Japan, New Mexico, and everywhere. December 1, 2019 is deadline for the this year's contest.. Songs of Social Change is a project of the Renaissance Artists and Writers Association (RAWA.net), led by Dada Veda, part of Ananda Marga.

Susan Salidor is a voice you will not forget. Starting in musical theater, progressing through activist music with Voices, having co-hosted a show on WLUM-FM, at Loyola, and with decades of enriching young souls and bodies as a music specialists at schools in the Chicago area, Susan makes beautiful, meaningful, & memorable music.

Joel Landy (or on Facebook) is a mild-mannered NYC HS teacher by day, but after hours he dons his Treason t-shirt and performs his original and parody songs around the city and beyond. You can hear & see much of Joel's music on Joel's YouTube Channel, and you can catch him at NY City's "premiere progressive venue", People's Voice Cafe.

Ruth Pelham has decades of experience with People's Music Network and in helping found Children's Music Network, and has 4 decades of using music to connect the people of Albany, NY, and the world, with her non-profit, MusicMobile.org.
